Database Access Security

Controls that restrict and monitor who and what can reach your databases, from network exposure and least-privilege accounts to encryption, masking and query auditing.

Overview

Why it matters
for your business.

Databases hold your most sensitive records, yet they are often reachable from too many places, accessed through shared admin passwords and connected to applications with full owner rights. We review and tighten every path to your data: network exposure, authentication methods, account privileges, and how developers and support staff reach production.

Improvements include private networking and firewall rules, separate least-privilege accounts per application, secrets stored in a vault rather than config files, encryption at rest and in transit, and dynamic masking of personal fields for support users. Database activity auditing records privileged queries, supporting investigations and your obligations under the DPDP Act 2023.

What's included

  • Database access path and privilege review
  • Network restriction and private connectivity setup
  • Least-privilege application and user accounts
  • Credential management through a secrets vault
  • Encryption and data masking configuration
  • Database activity audit logging

Outcomes

What changes
for your business.

Ideal for

  • Firms storing customer financial or health data
  • SaaS platforms on managed cloud databases
  • Teams sharing production database passwords

Smaller attack surface

Databases are no longer reachable directly from the internet or unnecessary internal networks.

Limited blast radius

Least-privilege accounts restrict damage if one application or credential is compromised.

Traceable data access

Audit logs show who queried sensitive data, supporting investigations and breach assessments.

How we deliver

A clear, accountable
process.

Every engagement follows the same disciplined approach, adapted to the size and urgency of your project.

  1. 01

    Assess

We understand your data sources, applications or risks and agree priorities and scope.

  2. 02

    Plan

A clear approach covering tools, coverage, controls and responsibilities is agreed with you.

  3. 03

    Implement

We build the pipelines, dashboards, test suites or security controls and verify they work.

  4. 04

    Report & improve

Findings, metrics and recommendations are shared regularly so quality keeps improving.

FAQ

Common
questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

How should developers access production databases?

Ideally rarely, and through controlled, logged access. We set up approaches such as just-in-time access through a bastion or access proxy, read-only replicas with masked data, and time-limited credentials, so emergency access remains possible without permanent standing privileges.

Will encryption slow down our database?

Transparent encryption at rest and TLS in transit typically add modest overhead on modern hardware and managed services. Column-level encryption has more impact, so we apply it selectively to highly sensitive fields and test performance before production rollout.
