Virtual Infrastructure Migration

Moving virtual machines between hypervisors, clusters, hardware generations or data centres, with planned waves, testing and rollback so business applications continue running with minimal interruption.

Overview

Why it matters
for your business.

Hardware refreshes, hypervisor changes, data centre moves and mergers all require virtual machines to move somewhere new. Doing this live, for dozens or hundreds of VMs, carries risk: driver differences, IP changes, application dependencies and tight maintenance windows. Virtual infrastructure migration plans and executes these moves methodically, whatever the source and destination platforms.

We inventory virtual machines and dependencies, group them into waves and choose a method for each, such as vMotion, replication, V2V conversion or backup-and-restore. Pilot migrations validate the approach. Each wave includes pre-checks, migration, application testing by owners and a rollback path. Drivers, guest tools and network settings are adjusted post-move, and old hosts are decommissioned once stable.

What's included

  • VM inventory and dependency mapping
  • Migration method chosen per workload
  • Wave plan aligned to maintenance windows
  • Pilot migration and lessons learned
  • Wave execution with application testing
  • Post-migration clean-up and decommissioning

Outcomes

What changes
for your business.

Ideal for

  • VMware to Hyper-V or KVM migrations
  • Hardware refreshes across vSphere clusters
  • Data centre relocations and consolidations

Minimal business disruption

Planned waves and tested methods keep downtime limited to agreed windows for each application group.

Working applications after move

Owners verify their applications in every wave before the source virtual machines are retired.

Clean target platform

Drivers, tools and settings are corrected after migration, leaving no legacy leftovers behind.

How we deliver

A clear, accountable
process.

Every engagement follows the same disciplined approach, adapted to the size and urgency of your project.

  1. 01

    Assess

We review your current systems, costs, risks and constraints, and agree what success looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

You get a target architecture and a phased roadmap with clear effort, risks and dependencies.

  3. 03

    Implement

We build, configure or migrate with change control, testing and minimal disruption.

  4. 04

    Operate & optimise

Monitoring, documentation and regular reviews keep performance, security and costs on track.

FAQ

Common
questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

Can virtual machines migrate without downtime?

Within the same platform, technologies like vMotion can move running VMs with no noticeable downtime. Cross-hypervisor or cross-site moves usually need a short outage for final synchronisation and restart. We plan these windows with application owners in advance.

What if an application fails after migration?

Each wave has a rollback plan. The source VM remains intact until the owner signs off, so we can switch back quickly if testing reveals a problem. We then investigate the cause, fix it and reschedule the move.
