LDAP & Directory Service Integration
Integrating applications, servers and network devices with Active Directory, OpenLDAP or cloud directories, so user accounts and groups are managed in one authoritative place.
Overview
Why it matters
for your business.
Many organisations still run Active Directory or OpenLDAP as the backbone of internal identity, while legacy applications, Linux servers, Wi-Fi and VPN appliances maintain their own local users. We connect these systems to your directory so authentication and group membership come from a single source, maintained by IT.
Integration is done securely: LDAPS or StartTLS instead of plain LDAP, least-privilege bind accounts, carefully scoped search bases and group-based authorisation. Where you are moving to the cloud, we synchronise on-premises directories with Microsoft Entra ID using Entra Connect, or plan migration paths. Directory structure and group naming are tidied as part of the work.
What's included
- Directory structure and group design review
- Application and server LDAP integrations
- LDAPS or StartTLS encrypted connections
- Least-privilege service bind accounts
- Hybrid sync with Microsoft Entra ID
- Directory integration documentation
Outcomes
What changes
for your business.
Ideal for
- Organisations running on-premises Active Directory
- Linux server fleets needing central logins
- Institutions with legacy internal applications
Single account source
Users authenticate with directory credentials instead of separate local accounts on each system.
Encrypted directory traffic
LDAPS prevents credentials crossing the network in plain text during authentication.
Smoother cloud transition
Hybrid synchronisation lets on-premises and cloud services share identities while you modernise.

FAQ
Common
questions.
Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.
How is LDAP integration different from SSO?
With LDAP, each application typically collects the password and checks it against the directory. With SSO, users authenticate at a central identity provider and applications receive a signed token instead. LDAP suits legacy and infrastructure systems; SSO is preferable for web applications.
Can Linux servers authenticate against Active Directory?
Yes. Using SSSD or realmd, Linux servers can join Active Directory, allowing domain users to log in with group-based sudo rules. This removes scattered local accounts and makes access revocation consistent with the rest of your estate.
