Load Balancing & Reverse Proxy Configuration

Setting up load balancers and reverse proxies that spread traffic across servers, terminate SSL, cache content and protect your applications, improving availability and response times.

Overview

Why it matters
for your business.

A single web server is a single point of failure. When traffic spikes during a sale, admission season or campaign, it slows down or stops entirely. Load balancers and reverse proxies sit in front of your applications, distributing requests across healthy servers, handling SSL certificates and adding protections such as rate limiting and security headers.

We configure cloud load balancers, Nginx, HAProxy or Traefik according to your hosting environment. Health checks remove failing servers automatically, and session handling is set so users stay logged in. We add HTTP/2, compression, caching rules and sensible timeouts, and can integrate a CDN or web application firewall. Configurations are tested under realistic load before go-live.

Outcomes

What changes
for your business.

Ideal for

  • E-commerce sites with seasonal traffic spikes
  • Portals facing admission or result-day surges
  • Applications running on multiple servers

Higher availability

Traffic is routed away from failed servers automatically, so a single fault does not take your service offline.

Better peak performance

Requests are spread across servers and static content is cached, helping applications cope with busy periods.

Centralised SSL and security

Certificates, headers and rate limits are managed in one place instead of on every server.

How we deliver

A clear, accountable
process.

Every engagement follows the same disciplined approach, adapted to the size and urgency of your project.

  1. 01

    Assess

We review your current systems, costs, risks and constraints, and agree what success looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

You get a target architecture and a phased roadmap with clear effort, risks and dependencies.

  3. 03

    Implement

We build, configure or migrate with change control, testing and minimal disruption.

  4. 04

    Operate & optimise

Monitoring, documentation and regular reviews keep performance, security and costs on track.

FAQ

Common
questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

Do we need more than one server to benefit?

Load balancing needs at least two backend servers for failover, but a reverse proxy helps even with one. It can handle SSL, caching, compression and rate limiting, taking load off your application server and making it easier to add servers later.

Will users get logged out when traffic moves between servers?

Not if sessions are handled correctly. We either configure sticky sessions on the load balancer or, preferably, move session storage to a shared store such as Redis, so users stay logged in regardless of which server answers their request.
