API Development & Systems Integration

Legacy Application Integration

Connect older systems, such as desktop software, on-premise databases and mainframe-era applications, to modern apps and cloud services without a risky full replacement.

Overview

Why it matters
for your business.

Many organisations still run critical work on systems built years ago: a desktop billing tool, an Oracle Forms application, an AS/400, a Visual Basic program or a custom database nobody dares to touch. Replacing them is expensive and disruptive, yet they block new apps, portals and automation. We build integration layers that let these legacy systems participate in modern workflows safely.

We start by understanding how the legacy system stores and exposes data, which might be database tables, flat files, message queues or only its user interface. Then we build the least invasive bridge available, often a read-only API, change data capture or scheduled file exchange. Business rules embedded in the old system are documented. This creates a stable foundation for phased modernisation later.

What's included

  • Legacy system discovery and interface assessment
  • API wrapper or adapter around legacy functions
  • File, database or queue-based data exchange
  • Documentation of embedded business rules
  • Integration test suite against legacy behaviour
  • Phased modernisation recommendations

Outcomes

What changes
for your business.

Ideal for

  • Organisations running on-premise systems from past decades
  • Cooperatives and institutions with ageing core software
  • Enterprises planning gradual, phased modernisation

New apps, old core

Modern portals and mobile apps can use legacy data without waiting for a full system replacement.

Lower change risk

Non-invasive integration avoids destabilising a system your daily operations still depend on.

Knowledge captured

Documenting hidden business rules reduces dependence on the few people who understand the old system.

How we deliver

A clear, accountable
process.

Every engagement follows the same disciplined approach, adapted to the size and urgency of your project.

FAQ

Common
questions.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

What if the legacy system has no API or documentation?

That is common. We examine the database schema, file outputs, logs and screens, and interview experienced users. Depending on what we find, we may read from the database, exchange files or, as a last resort, automate the user interface with RPA. We always prefer read-only access first.

Will integration slow down our existing system?

We design to avoid that. Heavy queries are scheduled outside business hours or run against replicas, change data capture reads logs rather than tables, and load is tested before go-live. We also agree a rollback plan with your IT team in case anything behaves unexpectedly.
